New Horizons in Tourism: An Interdisciplinary Approach
Synopsis
Tourism has today evolved beyond being an economic activity and has become a multidimensional discipline that develops through interaction with culture, psychology, sociology, history, architecture, education, and management sciences. This book, titled New Horizons in Tourism: An Interdisciplinary Approach, aims to make a holistic and in-depth contribution to the field by addressing the multifaceted nature of tourism from diverse perspectives.
The chapters included in the book examine individuals’ psychological responses within the context of gastronomy culture and last-chance tourism; destination evaluations from the perspective of tangible and intangible cultural heritage; and tour guides’ perceptions of the importance of foreign language proficiency and their professional needs. In addition, the book sheds light on the historical and cultural foundations of tourism by exploring the relationship between cult practices, architecture, and royal policy through the Dionysos temples of antiquity.
The book also addresses contemporary management topics such as psychological capital and leadership styles in tourism enterprises. Furthermore, the perceptions of students receiving tourism education toward the profession of tour guiding and the roles expected of ecotourism tour guides are revealed through studies conducted specifically in Muğla Province. In this respect, the book brings together both theoretical and practice-centred studies and thus serves as an important reference source for academics, researchers, industry professionals, and students.
With its original chapters examining tourism at the intersection of different disciplines, New Horizons in Tourism: An Interdisciplinary Approach aims to introduce new perspectives to the literature and to establish an intellectual foundation for the future of tourism.
