Synopsis

Last-chance tourism research often focuses on natural environments, offering a limited understanding of cultural and gastronomic elements. Based on this gap, this research aims to examine gastronomic culture in terms of last-chance tourism using the Data were collected through interviews with both local residents and tourists in Burdur Province. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. The findings revealed the following themes: risk of disappearance, reasons for disappearance, risk of disappearance and increase in value, secondary role of gastronomic culture in visit motivation, last chance tourism and Burdur’s gastronomic culture, last chance tourism and gastronomic culture. The findings show that gastronomic culture in general can be considered within the scope of last chance tourism. However, the findings suggest that some aspects of Burdur’s gastronomic culture are in danger of disappearance, but this threat has not created significant awareness or motivation among tourists to experience it. Therefore, it seems premature to evaluate Burdur’s gastronomic culture within the context of last-chance tourism. Consequently, this study is expected to contribute to the literature by incorporating gastronomic culture into last-chance tourism research.
