Synopsis

Tour guiding is an important profession that significantly affects the tourism sector and consumers’ satisfaction. Therefore, raising awareness of students starting from secondary education is important for increasing guides’ professional satisfaction and thus consumers’ satisfaction. This study aims to determine the perceptions of tourism students at a vocational high school in the city center of Muğla Province regarding the tour guiding profession and to analyze these perceptions. The study administered a 46-item questionnaire to students, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS with frequency analysis, t-tests, and ANOVA. The findings revealed that participants generally have a positive perception of tour guiding, although differences exist in demographic variables. Furthermore, it was found that students who voluntarily chose to attend the tourism vocational high school have higher positive perceptions than those who did not, and as students approach their final year, their perceptions improve positively with the help of professional experience and internships.
