Synopsis

Purpose: This chapter aims to examine the integration of sustainable human resource management (SHRM) with artificial intelligence (AI) applications and to explore the future orientations of human resource management (HRM). It will investigate how traditional HRM processes can be transformed through a sustainability perspective and how AI technologies can be effectively utilized in this process. The study aims to reveal the impact of AI-supported sustainability practices in core HR functions on organizational efficiency and employee engagement.

Problem: Human resources management is being reshaped by global transformations such as digitalization and sustainability. However, there are a limited number of studies in the literature on which areas AI-supported sustainable HRM practices are more effective and what kind of challenges this transformation poses for employees, managers, and organizations. This study will examine the integration of artificial intelligence into HRM functions. Due to the limited number of studies, it aims to address this gap by focusing on AI applications in HRM functions such as recruitment, performance management, and training and development.

Method: This research provides an evaluation in light of the literature and sectoral practices in the field. A conceptual framework was formed by analyzing recent studies on artificial intelligence and sustainable human resource management. In addition, case studies related to practices in different sectors were conducted, and suggestions were made regarding the integration of AI into sustainable HRM.

Importance: Digitalization and sustainability have become important for institutions seeking competitive advantage in the modern business world. AI-supported human resource management not only optimizes operational processes but also supports long-term sustainability goals. This study aims to fill an important knowledge gap for academics and business professionals regarding how SHRM can be enhanced through AI.

Conclusion: It has been determined that the integration of artificial intelligence applications into sustainable human resource management provides significant benefits in terms of organizational efficiency, employee engagement, and long-term strategic planning. However, the ethical, security, and workforce impacts of this transformation must be taken into consideration, and the implementations should continue to be developed within a human-centered approach. The study aims to guide organizations in establishing sustainable and technology-oriented HR policies.
