Synopsis
Climate change is recognized as one of the greatest global health threats of the 21st century, with multidimensional impacts directly linked to environmental health. In this context, the health effects of climate change are not limited to physical illnesses but span a broad spectrum including mental health, environmental justice, social inequalities, and food security. Factors such as rising temperatures, air pollution, and the deterioration of water and food resources contribute to the spread of infectious diseases, increased mental health disorders, and the deepening of societal vulnerabilities. In response to these threats, integrated approaches such as nature-based solutions, community-based adaptation mechanisms, and climate-resilient health systems have become increasingly significant. Furthermore, the development of policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the integration of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are essential for effective interventions. In the context of Turkey, the integration of climate change considerations into health policies and the promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration stand out as urgent priorities.
