Synopsis

Sport is a multidimensional phenomenon that contributes to individuals’ physical, mental, and emotional development. However, the inherent competition, stress, and performance pressure in sports can challenge athletes’ emotional balance, leading to negative reactions such as anger, aggression, and violence. These reactions not only impair individual performance but also disrupt team dynamics and undermine the ethical values of sport. Research indicates that anger and aggression are common emotional processes in sports; yet, when managed appropriately, they can enhance motivation and competitive drive. Conversely, uncontrolled anger and aggression may cause distraction, poor decision-making, and performance decline. The roots of violence in sports stem not only from individual psychological factors but also from social, cultural, and environmental influences. Referee decisions, spectator pressure, media discourse, and the competitive atmosphere are key triggering elements. In this context, improving psychological performance depends on effective anger management, stress control, emotional regulation, and the adoption of ethical principles. In conclusion, the balanced management of anger, aggression, and violence in sports forms the foundation for sustainable high performance and the promotion of fair-play culture.
