Synopsis

The private security sector in Türkiye has rapidly expanded over the past two decades due to the increasing security needs of both public institutions and private sector organizations. Private security personnel are considered a disadvantaged occupational group, as they work in high-risk environments, follow intensive and irregular shift schedules, and face low wages as well as limited opportunities for promotion. These conditions have a significant impact on employees’ job satisfaction, psychological well-being, and overall quality of life. This chapter examines the effects of job satisfaction and perceptions of psychological empowerment on the quality of life among private security personnel working in the province of Batman.

The study population consists of private security officers employed in various institutions and organizations across Batman, and survey data were collected from a sample of 350 employees. The Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale, Spreitzer’s Psychological Empowerment Scale, and the WHOQOL Quality of Life Scale were used as data collection instruments, and the results were analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) using SPSS and AMOS. The findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between job satisfaction and quality of life, and demonstrate that psychological empowerment exerts strong and significant effects on both job satisfaction and quality of life. The impact of psychological empowerment on quality of life appears to be higher in the Batman sample compared with many studies in the literature. This result highlights the critical role of regional and sectoral conditions in shaping employee well-being.
