Technological advancements in recent years, influenced by artificial intelligence with an average history of seventy years, have affected all sectors. This revolution can be defined as a new form of a renaissance. The tourism sector is also undergoing a transformation under the influence of artificial intelligence. Businesses that can keep pace with this transformation are able to gain a competitive advantage and become more sustainable. This increases their appeal to tourists. As artificial intelligence applications develop, their areas of application are also increasing and diversifying.
Artificial intelligence applications in tourism include machine learning, virtual reality, augmented reality, chatbots, etc. These artificial intelligence applications are evident in various areas of the sector, such as hospitality, food and beverage, travel agencies, and tour guiding. Their intensive use in practice is also reflected in the relevant academic literature. In this context, this section explains the concept of artificial intelligence and the development of artificial intelligence studies in the field of tourism, and articles related to artificial intelligence in tourism are examined using descriptive analysis methods. As a result of this study, both the application of artificial intelligence in the sector and its importance in the academic literature have been revealed.
