Synopsis

This book aims to explain and discuss the fundamental dynamics of power struggles and political behaviour within organizations, while addressing contemporary issues in this field. It also seeks to promote the effective and ethical use of organizational power for both individual and institutional well-being. Understanding the dynamics of power is critically important for the effective management of organizational structure, culture, change, and leadership processes. Accordingly, the book examines the structural components and operational dynamics of organizations, elaborating on the theories that explain organizational power, the primary sources of managerial power, and the symbolic dimensions of leadership authority. Furthermore, the relationship between organizational power and culture is analysed through the role of cultural context in power concentration, discussed across different cultural typologies. Topics such as organizational change, resistance to change, transformations of power, the use of power in times of crisis, and the psychology of power are also explored in detail. The book additionally approaches the concept of power from a digitalization perspective, emphasizing the potential transformations of power relations and political behaviour in the organizations of the future. Moreover, it provides a comprehensive review of the literature on the foundations of political behaviour, power struggles, diversity-oriented political relations, organizational silence, and alienation.
